Diabetes

Many people in the world suffer diabetes, an illness due to the pancreas does not produce insulin (the hormone produced by this organ). There are other cases in which the pancreas produces insulin, but the insulin can't do her effect in a appropiate way. If the pancreas can't produce insulin, the glucose stay in the blood and it isn't being used as a fuel for energy, for that reason the amount of glucose in your blood is too high.

There are two types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes: the pancreas can't produce insulin and Type 2 diabetes, in which the insulin that is produced does not work properly. The main symptoms of undiagnosed diabetes are: increased thirst, extreme tiredness, unexplained weight loss, passing urine more ofthen than usual (especially at night), etc. Although there is no known cure for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, having the illness is not synonym of a poor quality of life if we know how to treat the disease. We have to take a healthy and balanced diet and to do some sport. The most important issue is to avoid sweets and industrial baking and to eat more vegetables, fruits, fish and beans.

To sum up, although diabetes is a serious illness that we must control, we can live with the illness perfectly and, if we control the disease in a suitable way we can live a lot of years withouth complications.

Write a composition + Quote your sources

"A writer never forgets the first time he accepted a few coins or a word of praise in exchange for a story. He will never forget the sweet poison of vanity in his blood, and the belief that, if he succeeds in not letting anyone discover his lack of talent, the dream of literature will provide him with a roof over his head, a hot meal at the end of the day, and what he covets the most: his name printed on a miserable piece of paper that surely will outlive him"  (1) There are many reasons why a person decides to write. But what are the things why a writer feels more proud of him/herself when he/she writes an article or a book?

To be a good writer it is necessary to be honest and to have an open mind. You must analyse your words in a constructive way and express by yourself freely. Another reason to be a good writer is that you have to love what you do: you have to sit on your desk and to feel how the words flow from your brain to your hand and these words are defined in the paper. A writer has a lot of reasons to feel proud of him/herself: he/she helps with his/her words to each person who reads his/her books, and his/her words carry people to other imaginary world where life is easier or more complicated than in the real one. A writer does not work by the money: he/she only writes because he/she loves what he/she is doing and he/she wants to make to spend a nice time to the person who is reading his/her piece of paper.

To sum up, a good writer has to be honest with an open mind and has to feel the power of literature running through his/her veins: he/she has to love what he/she is doing. This is the only way of getting a successful career.

Are we the victims of our own destruction?

Nowadays, people is destroying the world faster and faster. It is enough to watch TV and to see how people hurt other people and how our liberties are forbidden. Freedom of expression is a right of everybody and this right must belong intact.

If we limit the freedom of expression of other people, what kind of education we teach to our children? They must grow in a civilized state and they must speak without fear because of somebody can hurt them for their ideas or thoughts. We also have the need of respect other ideology and customs. Nobody must laught at no-one but, if this happens, this is not reason to justify a death. Nothing justifies a death.

To sum up, we are the victims of our own destruction, because some people try to impede that we say loud and clear what we think and they try to forbid our liberties. We have to look for a solution for this big problem.

My life is brilliant

When I speak with my friends about how their life is, some of them say to me that they are not happy. But what can we do to be happy in our lifes? This is a very difficult question to answer. The first step to be happy is to set aims, whatever they are. It is very important to wake up every morning with illusion for achieving your purposes and with motivation, with something that makes you go out from the bed and to fight for attaining your dreams. The second step is do not worry a lot for the events that happen in your life. It is useless to worry a lot about problems because you will not outlive life. Life is not serious, for that reason enjoy and have a good time! A third reason to be cheerful is to give many embraces and kisses. It is a good way of liberating of negative thoughts and a lot of positive energy is transmited from person to person. Life is brilliant, that is why we have to make a good use of time and to wake up every morning with a smile. There is not time for losing time.

Practice 4: Write a short Problem/Solution essay about any issue you consider worth analysing.

My brother has been very bad at maths since he was at school. He has problems to understand the different issues maths is about and it is hard for him to learn. Although he studies a lot of maths, he always fails and he sometimes feels a little sad and depressed. My parents and I are looking for solutions to try that he feels better within himself, and to try to get higher marks at maths.

One solution to this problem would be to give him extra classes of maths. Although my parents have to pay for these classes, these classes are for his own benefit. Another solution to this problem is to buy him maths games with the aim that he learn a lot of maths while he is playing computer games. He really loves all types of games and this would be very useful for him. A last solution is that my father knows something about maths and he can teach him during his spare time. In this way, he could study more maths with my father and he would be his "second teacher".

To sum up, although it is very difficult for my brother to learn maths, with all these solutions we can get positive results and we have to try that he does not feel sad or depressed, because there is no reason to feel in this way.

Practice 3: Write a short Opinion essay positioning yourself against something most people agree (but you do not).

Many people think that zoos are a good way of protecting endagered animals. However, I don't agree. Animals must live in their natural spaces because it is the only way of living free and in their own space. Although a lot of people say that animals are looked after and protected in zoos there are some disadvantages that we must have in mind.

One disadvantage is that people who work in zoos do not feed and clean animals as they must. Workers in the zoo do not worry about improving their life giving them food or water, and a lot of animals die. Another disadvantage is that animals can't reproduce in a free way in the zoos. It is necessary for them to live in their natural spaces for this. A last disadvantage is that animals live in very small spaces in the zoos, for that reason they hurt themselves accidentaly when they are playing.

To sum up, endagered animals have to live in their natural spaces because in many zoos they are mistreated and workers do not look after them as well as they should.
